Growing Bamboo in GA

February 17, 2001 Minutes

The President Robby Russell called the meeting to order at the University of Georgia Coastal Gardens and Bamboo Farm at 5 PM with a quorum present.

The registration committee for the Annual ABS meeting presented a summary of the registration details.

There was no treasurer's report, as the transfer of records from Mindy Linton to Lester Agnew had not been completed.

By proper nomination and seconds Lester Agnew was elected Secretary-Treasurer for the coming year by unanimous vote.

By proper nomination and seconds Mary Ann Silverman was elected to a three year term as Chapter Representative to the American Bamboo Society Board of Directors by unanimous vote.

Robby Russell appointed the following new advisory board members, Lester Agnew, Mike Hotchkiss and Mary Ann Silverman to join the existing members, Frank Linton, Steve Ray and Adam Turtle. The President is automatically on the advisory board.

Mary Ann Silverman was authorized to update the information for the SEC on the ABS web site.

There was a discussion of meeting dates and places for the rest of the year. One meeting with a possible plant auction is to be held in Atlanta. Cla Allgood volunteered his facilities for the meeting. Mike Turner offered to host an October meeting with a date to be set. The members were reminded about the annual Anderson Moso workday March 3. Karen Vohman was appointed chairperson for a booth at the Atlanta Flower Show in 2002. A motion to allocate $500 to cover the cost of the booth and display was passed.

Mary Ann Silverman volunteered to serve as chapter librarian and her offer was accepted without vote. She offered to try to retrieve the materials from the last known librarian. Adam Turtle reminded the meeting that there was an existing resolution passed by the chapter authorizing $200.00 per year for new material for the chapter library.

Bert Silverman volunteered to serve as recording Secretary for the Chapter his offer was accepted without vote. On motion by Robby Russell with proper seconds the chapter voted to authorize Bert Silverman to purchase a tape recorder, so when he was unable to attend, the meeting could be recorded and the tape sent to him to compile proper minutes.

Dave Linville thanked the chapter and especially the forum and panel members for their work and presentations for the joint meeting with the University of Georgia.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 5:55 PM
